Error Resilient Lossless Image Coding
We present an image compression scheme that is error resilient and offers lossless decompression in the absence of channel noise. Attempts are made to detect transmission errors and data found to be in error is discarded so as not to pollute the decompressed output. This is achieved while still maintaining a level of compression that is competitive with lossless image compression standards.
متن کاملPredictor Order and Error Distribution of MMAE Predictors for Lossless Image Coding
This paper investigates the relation between an error distribution and a predictive order of minimum mean abusolute error predictors(MMAE predictors) designed for lossless coding of greyscale images. Design of MMAE predictors reduces to the linear programming problem. Let k is the number of coefficients in a predictor(predictor order), we imagine that predictor order k have a distribution shapi...
متن کاملAsymptotically Optimal Scalable Coding for Minimum Weighted Mean Square Error
In this paper, we derive an asymptotically optimal multi-layer coding scheme for entropy-coded scalar quantizers (SQ) that minimizes the weighted mean-squared error (WMSE). The optimal entropy-coded SQ is non-uniform in the case of WMSE. The conventional multi-layer coder quantizes the base-layer reconstruction error at the enhancement-layer, and is sub-optimal for the WMSE criterion. We consid...
متن کاملMinimum-Entropy Clustering and its Application to Lossless Image Coding
The Minimum-Entropy Clustering (MEC) algorithm proposed in this paper provides an optimal method for addressing the non-stationarity of a source with respect to entropy coding. This algorithm clusters a set of vectors (where each vector consists of a xed number of contiguous samples from a discrete source) using a minimum entropy criterion. In a manner similar to Classi ed Vector Quantization (...
متن کاملNear-lossless image compression: minimum-entropy, constrained-error DPCM
A near-lossless image compression scheme is presented. It is essentially a differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) system with a mechanism incorporated to minimize the entropy of the quantized prediction error sequence. With a "near-lossless" criterion of no more than a d gray-level error for each pixel, where d is a small nonnegative integer, trellises describing all allowable quantized pred...
